Description

Delightful bites of cheesy walleye fish, perfect for casual dinners or game day snacks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 eggs (lightly beaten)
  • 1/2 cup dry bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons minced fresh parsley
  • 1/4 teaspoon fresh dill
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups cooked walleye fish (deboned and skinless)
  • Vegetable oil for deep-fat frying
  • Tartar sauce & ketchup for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine 2 lightly beaten eggs, 1/2 cup dry bread crumbs, 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese, 1/4 cup finely chopped onion, 1 clove minced garlic, 1 1/2 teaspoons minced fresh parsley, 1/4 teaspoon fresh dill, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper until a thick paste forms.
  2. Gently fold in 1 1/2 cups cooked walleye fish until evenly incorporated.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat until it reaches 375°F.
  4. Roll about 1 1/2 tablespoons of the fish mixture into balls and carefully drop them into the hot oil.
  5. Fry undisturbed for 1 minute until golden brown, then flip and cook for an additional 30 to 40 seconds.
  6. Transfer fried nuggets to a cooling rack to drain excess oil.
  7. Continue frying until all the fish mixture is used. Serve with lemon wedges, ketchup, and tartar sauce.

Notes

For a healthier option, bake the nuggets at 400°F for 15-18 minutes, flipping halfway.
