Description

Decadent, fudgy brownies with a gooey caramel center and melty chocolate chips. These ultra-rich brownies feature a perfect balance of sweet caramel and deep chocolate flavors with a texture that’s crisp on top and dense in the middle.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (high-quality)
  • 1 tbsp pure vanilla extract
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour, sifted
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup milk chocolate chips (Ghirardelli recommended)
  • 11 oz Kraft caramels, unwrapped
  • ⅓ cup evaporated milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 3 minutes).
  3. Beat in cocoa powder and vanilla. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each.
  4. In separate bowl, whisk sifted flour, baking powder and salt. Gradually add to wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
  5. Fold in chocolate chips. Spread ⅔ of batter into prepared pan.
  6. In saucepan over low heat, melt caramels with evaporated milk, stirring until smooth. Drizzle over brownie layer.
  7. Drop remaining batter by spoonfuls over caramel layer (it will spread during baking).
  8. Bake 25-30 minutes until edges pull away from pan (center should still be slightly soft).
  9. Cool completely in pan before cutting into squares (2 hours minimum).

Notes

  • For cleaner cuts: Chill brownies 1 hour before slicing with hot knife
  • Storage: Keep airtight at room temp for 3 days or freeze for 1 month
  • Upgrade: Sprinkle flaky sea salt on warm brownies before cooling
  • For extra fudginess: Reduce flour to ¾ cup
  • Warning: Caramel layer will be molten hot – allow proper cooling time
