A decadent and easy-to-make casserole featuring cream cheese and juicy blueberries, perfect for brunch gatherings.

- 1 (16-18 ounces) loaf brioche bread, day-old
- 2 croissants, day-old
- 8 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- ½ cup heavy cream
- 3 teaspoons vanilla extract
- ½ cup light brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- ¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon salt
- Zest of 1 lemon
- 1 ½ cups fresh or frozen blueberries
- 6 ounces cream cheese, cut into small cubes
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan with room temperature butter.
- Cut the brioche and croissants into 1-inch cubes and toss them into a large mixing bowl.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, vanilla extract, brown sugar, maple syrup, ground cinnamon, salt, and lemon zest.
- Layer half of the cubed bread and croissants into the greased pan. Sprinkle 1 cup of blueberries and half of the cream cheese cubes on top. Layer the remaining bread and top with the last of the blueberries and cream cheese cubes.
- Pour the custard over the assembled bread, ensuring all pieces are soaked. Cover and refrigerate overnight or for at least 2-3 hours.
- Bake covered for 35 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes until golden brown and the center is just set.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving with fresh blueberries, confectioner’s sugar, and maple syrup.
Notes
For best results, let the casserole soak overnight. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
