Description

A delightful layered dessert featuring chocolate cake, whipped cream, and cherries, perfect for holiday celebrations.


Ingredients

  • 1 box of chocolate cake mix
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups canned or fresh cherries (pitted)
  • 1/4 cup cherry juice
  • 2 cups vanilla pudding
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate shavings
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven according to cake mix instructions.
  2. Bake the chocolate cake as directed (30-35 minutes for a 9-inch round cake).
  3. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  4. In a mixing bowl, whip the chilled heavy cream until beginning to thicken (about 2 minutes).
  5. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, whipping until soft peaks form (2-3 minutes more).
  6. If using fresh cherries, wash, pit, and chop. Combine cherries with cherry juice.
  7. In a trifle dish, layer chopped chocolate cake, cherries, vanilla pudding, and whipped cream. Repeat layers until full, finishing with whipped cream and garnishing with chocolate shavings and cocoa powder.
  8. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.

Notes

For best flavor, assemble trifle a day in advance. Can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
