Description

Delicious Baklava Scrolls offer a modern twist on the classic dessert, featuring flaky pastry, fragrant nuts, and a subtly spiced syrup in an easy-to-manage scroll format.


Ingredients

  • 1 packet of Fillo Pastry
  • 2 cups walnuts (or substitute with almonds, pistachios, or cashews)
  • 1 cup of butter (melted)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Chop the walnuts finely and mix them with cinnamon in a bowl.
  3. Lay out one sheet of fillo pastry and brush it with melted butter.
  4. Layer additional sheets of fillo, brushing each with butter.
  5. Sprinkle a portion of the walnut mixture over the pastry.
  6. Roll the pastry tightly into a log.
  7. Place the roll in a greased baking dish and repeat with remaining ingredients.
  8. Brush the top of the logs with melted butter.
  9. Bake for about 30 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. While baking, combine sugar, water, and vanilla extract in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  11. Pour the syrup over the hot baklava out of the oven.
  12. Cool slightly before slicing into pieces.

Notes

For a richer flavor, you can add honey or lemon juice to the syrup. Ensure unused fillo pastry is covered to prevent drying out.
