Description

A surprising and delicious vegan alternative to bacon using banana peels that are marinated and cooked to crispy perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large banana peels
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup (or agave syrup)
  • 1 teaspoon liquid smoke
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons neutral oil

Instructions

  1. Wash the banana peels thoroughly under cool running water and scrape out the white pith. Cut into strips about 1 inch wide.
  2. Marinate the peel strips in a mixture of soy sauce, maple syrup, liquid smoke, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder for at least 15-30 minutes.
  3. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and heat neutral oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  4. Sauté the banana peel strips for 2-3 minutes on each side until they start to crisp up.
  5. Bake the banana peels on a parchment-lined baking sheet for 10-15 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  6. Serve and enjoy your Banana Peel Bacon!

Notes

Ensure your banana peels are clean and free from pesticides; organic is best. Prep all ingredients beforehand to streamline the cooking process.
