  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • For assembly:
  • 8 hard taco shells
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 tomato, diced
  • 1/4 cup diced onions
  • 8 dill pickle slices
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tsp hot sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. Mix burger seasoning: Combine ground beef with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder and Worcestershire sauce.
  2. Form small balls: Divide meat into 16 equal portions (about 1 oz each) and roll into balls.
  3. Smash burgers: Heat oil in large skillet over high heat. Place 4 balls in skillet, immediately smash flat with spatula. Cook 2 minutes until crispy edges form.
  4. Flip and cheese: Flip patties, top each with 1/4 slice cheese, cook 1 more minute. Repeat in batches.
  5. Make sauce: Mix mayo, ketchup, mustard and hot sauce.
  6. Assemble tacos: Place 2 cheesy patties in each taco shell. Top with lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles and sauce.
  7. Serve immediately while hot and crispy.

Notes

  • Use a sturdy metal spatula for best smashing results
  • For extra crispiness, don’t move patties after smashing
  • Can substitute flour tortillas for hard shells
