- For the smash patties:
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend)
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 4 slices American cheese
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- For assembly:
- 8 hard taco shells
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- 1 tomato, diced
- 1/4 cup diced onions
- 8 dill pickle slices
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp yellow mustard
- 1 tsp hot sauce (optional)
Instructions
- Mix burger seasoning: Combine ground beef with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder and Worcestershire sauce.
- Form small balls: Divide meat into 16 equal portions (about 1 oz each) and roll into balls.
- Smash burgers: Heat oil in large skillet over high heat. Place 4 balls in skillet, immediately smash flat with spatula. Cook 2 minutes until crispy edges form.
- Flip and cheese: Flip patties, top each with 1/4 slice cheese, cook 1 more minute. Repeat in batches.
- Make sauce: Mix mayo, ketchup, mustard and hot sauce.
- Assemble tacos: Place 2 cheesy patties in each taco shell. Top with lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles and sauce.
- Serve immediately while hot and crispy.
Notes
- Use a sturdy metal spatula for best smashing results
- For extra crispiness, don’t move patties after smashing
- Can substitute flour tortillas for hard shells
- Add bacon or avocado for premium versions
