A perfectly balanced dipping sauce for potstickers, dumplings, or spring rolls with the ideal mix of savory, sweet, and tangy flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon honey or sugar (optional)
  • 1 garlic clove (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger (grated, optional)
  • 1 tablespoon water (to dilute if needed)
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes or chili oil (optional)
  • 1 green onion (finely sliced for garnish)
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sesame oil.
  2. Add honey/brown sugar and whisk until dissolved.
  3. Stir in ginger, garlic, and chili flakes (if using).
  4. Thin with water if desired for lighter consistency.
  5. Let sit 10 minutes for flavors to meld.
  6. Just before serving, sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onion.

Notes

  • For spicier version: add 1/2 tsp chili garlic paste or sriracha
  • Can be made 3 days ahead and refrigerated (add fresh garnishes when serving)
  • For vegan option: use maple syrup instead of honey
