Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Sprinkles or decorations (for Halloween)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a small bowl, stir together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter, white sugar, and egg until smooth. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients until just combined.
  5. If desired, divide the dough and add different food coloring for vibrant cookies.
  6. Roll the dough into balls (about 1-2 tablespoons each) and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Flatten the balls slightly and sprinkle with Halloween decorations.
  8. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, until golden around the edges.
  9. Let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
