Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Burgers:
  • 1 lb ground lamb
  • ½ lb ground beef (80/20)
  • ¼ cup finely diced red onion
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh oregano, chopped
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • For the Tzatziki:
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt (full-fat)
  • ½ English cucumber, grated and drained
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh dill, chopped
  • ½ tsp salt
  • To Serve:
  • 4 pita rounds or brioche buns
  • ½ cup crumbled feta cheese
  • Sliced tomatoes
  • Thinly sliced red onion
  • Baby arugula
  • Kalamata olives (optional)

Instructions

  1. Make Tzatziki: Mix yogurt, drained cucumber, lemon juice, garlic, dill, and salt. Chill for 1 hour.
  2. Prepare Patties: Gently combine all burger ingredients. Form into 4 equal patties (½-inch thick). Make a slight indentation in the center of each.
  3. Cook: Grill or pan-sear over medium-high heat for 4-5 minutes per side (160°F internal temp).
  4. Toast Pitas: Warm pitas on the grill for 30 seconds per side.
  5. Assemble: Spread tzatziki on pitas, add patties, then top with feta, tomatoes, onion, arugula, and olives.

Notes

  • Make Ahead: Tzatziki tastes better after 24 hours; patties can be shaped 1 day in advance
  • Alternative Cooking: Bake at 400°F for 15-18 minutes
  • Lighter Option: Use ground turkey instead of lamb/beef
  • Gluten-Free: Serve in lettuce wraps or GF pitas
